IV Sedation
IV (intravenous) sedation is a safe and effective option for patients who experience dental anxiety or are undergoing more complex dental procedures. It allows you to feel deeply relaxed while remaining conscious and able to respond to instructions.
What to ExpectInitial Consultation
Your dentist will assess your medical history, treatment needs, and suitability for IV sedation. All risks, benefits, and alternatives will be explained, and your questions answered.
Before Your Appointment
You will be given clear pre-appointment instructions, including fasting requirements and arranging for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from the appointment.
During Treatment
Sedation medication is administered through a small cannula placed in your arm or hand. You will feel calm and relaxed throughout the procedure, and many patients remember very little of the treatment.
After Treatment
You will be monitored until you are safe to go home. Most patients feel drowsy for the remainder of the day and should rest. Post-operative instructions will be provided, and a follow-up appointment arranged if required.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking prescribed medication before your dental appointment to help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. It is a simple and effective option for patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety.
What to ExpectInitial Consultation
Your dentist will review your medical history and determine whether oral sedation is appropriate for you. Instructions on how and when to take the medication will be provided.
Before Your Appointment
You will take the prescribed medication at the instructed time prior to your visit. You must arrange for someone to accompany you to and from the practice.
During Treatment
You will feel relaxed and calm during your appointment, while remaining awake and able to communicate. The level of sedation varies between individuals.
After Treatment
The sedative effects may last for several hours. You should rest for the remainder of the day and avoid driving, working, or making important decisions. Aftercare instructions will be given before you leave.
